“This is the only life sized self-portrait I’ve done other than one I did as a student. When I painted this, I had just bought my house and built my studio in it. This is the first painting I did in the new studio. The empty frame and the mirror are a kind of musing as to what all the future paintings might be that would come out of the new studio.”
